Embracing a Healthy Lifestyle: My Journey to Fitness and Wellbeing

Living a healthy lifestyle has become a top priority in my life, and it has brought about remarkable changes both in my appearance and overall well-being. This journey didn’t happen overnight; it involved making conscious decisions and embracing new habits. Today, I want to share with you some essential steps that helped me leave behind fast food and enter the world of fitness and vitality. If you’re curious about how to make positive changes in your life, keep reading!

From Fast Food to Fitness – My Transformation:

In the past, during my teenage years in Brazil, I followed an unhealthy diet despite going to the gym. My meals consisted of pizza, McDonald’s, and Coke – a routine that left much to be desired. I justified this poor diet with the notion that the gym was there to help me “gain weight,” as I felt too skinny. My mindset changed when I moved to Dublin, Ireland, where I began to realize the negative effects of my eating habits. However, it was in London that I truly committed to transforming my lifestyle.

Step 1: Prioritize Sleep and Establish a Routine:

One of the first and most significant changes I made was establishing a sleep routine. Although it may be challenging to break existing habits, I found the strength to do so. Having a fixed work schedule in London allowed me to go to bed consistently at 11 pm or 11:30 pm. This resulted in increased energy levels, which motivated me to engage in physical activities.

Step 2: Embrace a Balanced Diet:

Adopting a balanced diet is easier than you might think. The key is not to obsess over eating every few hours but to find a sustainable routine. I start my day with breakfast upon waking at 8 am, followed by lunch at 1:30 pm. To curb hunger between meals, I enjoy snacks like apples, bananas, tangerines, fruit salads, Brazil nuts, or cereal bars around 11 am and 4 pm. This ensures that I don’t overeat during meals, leaving me satisfied and energized throughout the day.

Step 3: Don’t Be Too Hard on Yourself:

Living a healthy lifestyle doesn’t mean you can never indulge in your favorite treats. I believe that being overly strict with oneself leads to unnecessary cravings and binging. Instead, I allow myself to enjoy a treat once a week, like a slice of pizza or a delicious açaí bowl. Remember, life is all about balance!

Step 4: Start Your Day with Lemon Water:

Drinking lemon water every morning has become a beneficial habit for me. Not only does it come with various health benefits, but it also helps to kickstart my appetite, making it easier to have breakfast, especially on days when I wake up without much hunger.

Step 5: Engage in Physical Activity:

Exercising is a favorite aspect of my healthy lifestyle. It’s not about pushing yourself into something you don’t enjoy; instead, find a physical activity that sparks joy. Whether it’s aerobics, swimming, running, yoga, pilates, martial arts, or cross-fit, there are numerous options to explore. Working out has become a motivating factor that encourages me to make healthier choices throughout the day.

Step 6: Know Your Goals and Stay Focused:

Understanding your goals and having a clear direction is vital for personal growth. In the past, I made the mistake of pursuing conflicting objectives, such as wanting to gain muscle while striving for a model-like body. Now, I know what I want and tailor my diet and exercise routine accordingly. Seeking guidance from a nutritionist is valuable in finding the right path for you.

Step 7: Love Yourself and Your Journey:

Taking care of your mental health is as crucial as maintaining your physical health. Embrace who you are, your body, and your uniqueness. Be kind to yourself and avoid comparing yourself to others. I used to struggle with body image issues, but now I accept and appreciate my body for what it is. Loving yourself is a key ingredient to a successful and sustainable healthy lifestyle.

Step 8: Be Mindful of Your Social Media Influences:

Social media can be a blessing and a curse. While it provides inspiration, it can also trigger feelings of inadequacy and comparison. Focus on following individuals who inspire and relate to you on a personal level, rather than those who make you feel inadequate. Celebrate your journey, and know that every individual is beautiful in their way.
